Fellowships to USA MDs, DOs, or individuals with a doctoral-level degree and post-doctoral training to obtain research training and experience in the field of reconstructive surgery. Funding is intended to support career development for residents and fellows who have completed their training. Proposals must include a research project focused on breast cancer or breast reconstruction.
This new grant was developed and is being offered this year in memory of ASPS Past President and Georgetown University Hospital Department of Plastic Surgery Department Founding Chair, Scott Spear, MD and the Spear family's desire to nurture and grow the training and expertise of young academicians considering a career in breast reconstruction and patient care. This grant opportunity is available to residents and fellows and provides salary support to undertake a research project under the guidance of an experienced mentor. The application must describe a structured research training plan, and a research project focused on breast cancer or breast reconstruction.
This grant is to promote and support the career development of junior physician-scientists focused on breast reconstruction and patient care. The salary must be for a resident or fellow; or plastic surgeon within the first three years of practice to obtain training and experience in research, under the guidance of an experienced mentor.

Award Amount: Up to $72,500 ($50,000 for salary support and $22,500 for research)
Project Duration: 12 months. Earliest Start Date: July 1, 2021.
Written requests for extensions must be received ninety (90) days before the expiration of the original grant period and are subject to approval by the Chair of The PSF Research Grants Committee. An approval of an extension does not include the award of additional funds.
The Principal Investigator may apply for additional funding. Those who want to expand upon their project at the end of the original time period will need to re-apply for additional funding.
